Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a medication commonly known for its anesthetic properties. However, in recent years, its therapeutic potential in treating mental health disorders has gained significant attention. Ketamine works by targeting the brain's glutamate system, which plays a crucial role in mood regulation. At lower doses, Ketamine allows for psychedelic and psycholytic experiences in the psychotherapy session.

How is Ketamine Administered?

Ketamine has a variety of ways it can be administered including Intravenous (IV), Intramuscular(IM), Nasally, and Sublingual (Orally).

In our practice we work Ketamine sublingual-orally for the dosing session.

What is our process?

  1. Free Consultation - Meet for a free 15-minute consultation to assess for appropriate fit and schedule the intake session.

  2. Intake Therapy Session - We will then meet for our intake/assessment session and you will be referred to our prescriber Journey Clinical for the ketamine prescription.

  3. Prescriber Intake Session- Meet with the prescriber and receive the initial doses of Ketamine.

  4. Preparation Therapy Sessions - We recommend a minimum of two or three preparation sessions to better prepare for the ketamine experience and create the appropriate set and setting for your journey.

  5. Initial Dosing Session - We will set a date for the KAP dosing session. The dosing session runs 2 hours. The session will begin with intention setting, then you will take the medication and be in your experience for approximately an hour. This will leave time for us to process what came up at the end.

  6. Integration Therapy Session - The integration session is recommended within 48 hours following the dosing session.

  7. Following Up KAP Dosing Sessions - Generally clients are recommended to do a minimum of two to six dosing sessions to gain maximum therapeutic effect from the intervention.

  8. Follow up Integration - Integration continues with follow up therapy sessions and can last as long as the client prefers.
